Bring us a story rooted in bonsai.
We welcome distinctive, useful work from practitioners, writers, researchers, artists, photographers and people who care for bonsai collections.
What we are looking for
BlogBonsai is a blog about trees, practice, people and ideas. We value firsthand observation and a clear point of view. Useful pitches might include:
- A tree-development journal or case study, including decisions that did not work as planned
- A field note on a technique, species or growing condition, grounded in a real tree
- An interview, practitioner profile or report from a show, garden or collection
- A photo essay with original images, captions and verified species details
- A historical or cultural story with traceable sources
- A thoughtful opinion that advances a specific conversation in bonsai
We are less interested in generic, keyword-led articles, lightly rewritten material, product promotion presented as independent advice, or submissions whose main purpose is obtaining a link.
How we select and edit
We consider fit with the publication, originality, reader value, the contributor’s specific perspective, factual support, image permissions and clarity of presentation. A pitch is not an acceptance or a promise to publish.
The editorial team may edit accepted work for clarity, length, accuracy and house style. We will consult you about material changes to your meaning or conclusions. We may decline work that cannot be verified, lacks the rights needed for publication, or does not meet the editorial standard.
Tell us if the work has appeared elsewhere, was created with substantial AI assistance, or involves payment, sponsorship, affiliate links, free products or another relevant relationship. A human contributor must verify the final facts and take responsibility for the submitted work.
Bylines, profiles and links
Published contributions are credited to the actual author. We may include a short, factual biography and one relevant profile, portfolio or organization link. We create author profiles from information the contributor supplies and can verify; we do not invent credentials, roles or biographies.
Links in the article are chosen for reader value and checked by the editors. A submission does not guarantee a backlink, a followed link, reciprocal linking, a ranking benefit or a publication date. Commercial relationships and sponsored links must be disclosed and labelled appropriately.
Images and rights
Send a pitch first. In the pitch, identify any images you propose to use and confirm whether you made them or have permission to license them. Do not submit images copied from other websites, social accounts or publications without explicit reuse permission. We will agree the required publication rights and credit with you before accepting a complete contribution.
How to pitch
Use the contact form and put Write for BlogBonsai — [working title] in the subject. A concise pitch is enough. Please include:
- Your working title, format and a short summary of the proposed piece
- Why the story matters to bonsai readers and what is distinctive about your perspective
- Your relevant experience, a short draft biography and one link to your work
- Sources for factual claims, names and quotations
- Image authorship or permission status
- Any prior publication, AI assistance, sponsorship, affiliate relationship or other conflict
Do not send sensitive personal information or a full unpublished manuscript unless the editors ask for it. The contact form explains how messages are processed.
Send a pitch through the contact form ↗Publication terms
If we want to take a pitch forward, we will confirm scope, attribution, editing and publication rights with you in writing before requesting or publishing the full work. Publication is not guaranteed, and we do not pay for or promise links in exchange for a submission unless a separate written agreement says otherwise.
