Andrea Melloni
Bonsai practitioner, teacher and designer. My work brings horticulture and visual composition together, with the tree’s health and character at the centre.
A practice shaped by trees
I began practising bonsai in 1988 and have worked professionally in the field since 1996. Over the years I have cultivated and collected trees, taught, demonstrated and exhibited, with particular attention to species and material suited to Mediterranean conditions.
My background also includes environmental science and fine art. Those studies inform two sides of the same practice: understanding how a tree grows, and making deliberate choices about its form. Neither replaces close observation of the individual plant.
BlogBonsai is being rebuilt as a practical reference for growers. The aim is to explain the reasoning behind care and design decisions, distinguish species-specific needs from general principles, and make room for experience without presenting it as a universal rule.
