Display is not cultivation

A tree can be brought inside briefly for viewing if the species and conditions allow, but many outdoor bonsai need to return to seasonal outdoor conditions. Tropical or subtropical indoor-grown species have different requirements. Confirm the species before staging a tree in a heated room.

Design the viewing position

Set the tree so the intended front and trunk line are visible. Height changes how the viewer reads the canopy: a cascade may need a raised stand, while an upright may work near eye level. A stand or slab should support the composition without competing with it.

Control the environment

Keep display time appropriate to species, temperature and light. Avoid vents, heaters, direct hot sun through glass and stagnant corners. Indoor light can be much weaker than outdoor light even beside a window. Return the tree to its growing position and resume normal monitoring.

Quiet backgrounds and respectful context

A simple background lets silhouette and branching remain legible. Companion plants, scrolls and stands can add context, but conventions vary. Use them intentionally rather than treating a display formula as mandatory.
