Do not force indoor placement
Most temperate trees need outdoor seasons and dormancy; tropical and subtropical plants may need bright warm winter protection. Confirm identity before changing location. A heated room is not a safe default for every frost-sensitive tree.
Do not use a watering calendar
Daily watering may be excessive in a cool wet period and inadequate in summer wind. Check substrate moisture, then water fully when needed. Do not leave roots permanently wet, and do not let a small pot become repeatedly bone dry.
Avoid stacked stress
Hard pruning, root reduction, wiring and defoliation all draw on recovery capacity. Combine them only when species, vigor and practitioner experience support the plan. Weak or recently repotted trees need time, not more interventions.
Do not copy chemicals or wild collection methods
Identify pests before treatment, follow the local label, and consider people, pets and beneficial organisms. Collect only with permission and legal clearance; ecological and survival risks remain even when a tree looks recoverable. A cautious decision is often the more skilled one.
